Description

We are Ibis Interactive, a game development studio from Valdivia, Chile. Our main objective is to make creative and detailed experience, from artistry and narrative to mechanics. Our mascot is a bandurria, a common bird from southern Chile, and it symbolizes the essence of our work: curiosity, resilience and local idiosyncrasy.

History

Early history

The origins of our team trace back to Global Game Jam 2021 where Nicolás, Sebastián and Marco collaborated for the first time with Cristian and Javiera in a narrative game called Lost Bond, focused on the memories of a grandfather and his family. The team kept in touch afterwards, collaborating on some projects. In 2023 we once again attended Global Game Jam Valdivia as a team, where Israel joined the group and we made a game called Math Error. Satisfied about the results and with the motivation to keep developing our game, we started to hold frequent meetings during 2023, which resulted in various participations in online game jams. This was when we decided to give our team a name: Ibis Interactive, inspired by the bandurrias that you can find in our city.

After that

Our first game under the Ibis Interactive name was You're Next, a narrative horror game inspired by adventure and horror games of the 90s and meta-horror movies like Scream and The Cabin in the Woods. In early 2024 we participated in Global Game Jam once again, making the first prototype of Don Pepe y sus globos: a 4-player action game where players compete in a water balloon fight. In September 2024 we attended our first in-person event: GameDev Fest (Rancagua), where we presented a couple of our jam games (Blade of the Overlord and You're Next) and we had the chance to meet many fellow developers, building bonds that are kept until present day. In November 2024 we collaborated with the 9punto5 conference through developing Picoteo, a casual mobile game focused on a bandurria feeding in a wetland. In December 2024 we participated in Festival Internacional Aguacero (Valdivia), presenting Picoteo and a reworked version of Don Pepe y sus globos to a large amount of players. We had the opportunity to share with renowed international experts of the industry and closed our participation in Aguacero by holding an open Don Pepe y sus globos tournament on the main event stage. In January 2025 we joined the organization of Global Game Jam Valdivia, assisting in aspects such as holding pre-event talks and selecting mentors. In April 2025 we participated in Feria de Industrias Creativas (FINC) 2025 in Valdivia, presenting our games and participating in talks and panels with international experts. In late April 2025 we released LongaMóvil, the official videogame of the chilean film Denominación de Origen, from production studio Equeco. This project was born of a direct collaboration with the film's director Tomás Alzamora at Festival Internacional de Cine Valdivia, and it is the first videogame adaptation of a chilean film, once again manifesting our interest in local art.
